Falaks Vasa (they/she, b. Kolkata) is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and writer with a set of practices that oscillate playfully between transparency, opacity, and il(libglitiey).
As an artist, Falaks’ work spans video, performance, fiber art, 3D animation, and more. Their work has been exhibited internationally, including the UK, Netherlands, Italy, India, Canada, and the US. They’ve also attended artist residencies at ACRE and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
As an educator, she teaches and advises regularly at RISD and MassArt. Falaks’ pedagogy is experimental, grounded in trust and community, with courses like ‘Pedagogical Playgrounds: Classroom as Studio’. She’s been awarded a Teaching Fellowship at the Teaching & Learning Lab (RISD) and the Archambault Teaching Award(Brown) for their teaching.
As a writer, she has written a speculative fiction novel, published a poetry chapbook, and written for spoken word and lecture-performances.
Falaks graduated with an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University (2023), a BFA in Studio Art from SAIC (2018), and currently lives in Rhode Island with her spouse, a cat, a ball python, and a bin of worms.
