Falaks Vasa (they/she) is an interdisciplinary artist with a set of practices that oscillate in and out of definition. These practices emerge from their body and its lived experiences, spanning pedagogy, performance, poetry, photography and palliterations, as well as 3D animation, stand-up comedy, chess, and more. Falaks graduated with an MFA in Literary Arts from Brown University (2023), and a BFA from the school of the art institute of chicago (2018), and currently teaches at various institutions including the rhode island school of design and massart.
as an artist, Falaks’ work has been exhibited internationally, and they’ve attended residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and ACRE. As a poet and author of speculative fiction, falaks has written a novel, and her literary works have been published by Sybil Press and collected by the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection. As a professor, she has been awarded the Archambault Award for Teaching Excellence from Brown University, and had multiple articles published about her innovative courses.
Falaks is from Kolkata, India, and lives in Providence, RI, with her spouse, cat, ball python, and 1000 worms.
